When the Washington County Agricultural Fair Board announced the cancellation of the 2020 Fair due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they approved a resolution to preserve the Junior Livestock Market Competition.  The Fair Board also approved the formation of the Junior Livestock Market Board Committee that immediately began to work on a plan to conduct the Livestock Market Competition August 20 – 22, 2020.

After weeks of review and planning, the Junior Livestock Market Board Committee announced, today, the final plans for the three-day Junior Livestock Market Competition.  The competition will run from Thursday, August 20 through Saturday, August 22.  The three-day event will feature the showing and sale of rabbits, goats, hogs, lambs, and steers.  The Fair Board is also pleased to announce that EQT Corporation has agreed to be the presenting sponsor, with the event now known as the “EQT Junior Livestock Market Show and Sale”.  EQT’s generosity will go a long way to offset the costs of conducting the event.  A complete list of sponsors is attached.  The Fair Board would like to recognize and thank all its sponsors.

“The cancellation of the 2020 Fair was not made lightly but considering the Covid-19 pandemic concerns and the safety of our many stakeholders, we believe it is the right decision.  The EQT Junior Livestock Market Competition allows the hundreds of children and their families to show the animals they have been nurturing and preparing for months” said Todd Richards, Fair Board President. The cancellation of the 2020 Fair impacts its many stakeholders; the county, the agricultural and tourism industries, 4-H Clubs, FFA members, venders, volunteers, sponsors, the carnival company, concessionaires and the 50,000 people who attend annually.

“EQT is proud to support our communities, as well as the hard work and dedication of the auction participants. We understand and appreciate the time and care required to raise the animals and we wish each family the best,” said Josie Schultz, EQT External Communications Manager.

The Junior Livestock Market Board Committee is working with County Officials on the COVID-19 plans to ensure that the show participants, volunteers and spectators are in a safe and healthy environment.
